Around the 12th Fret

from Unarranged by Matt Kaye

/

lyrics

Well, I get misty just like Erroll Garner.
I swing my hammer, I adore the golden lock.
I feel a chilly wind around the 2nd fret.
I travel ten frets up, I let my ramrod rock.

Virginia Woolf, she was a nice old lady.
I offered coffee, but my goodness, she declined.
She rode the waves better than Dennis Wilson.
She never let on as to what was on her mind.

You’re buked and scorned, but, well, there’s always movies.
You should’ve prayed, your mama said. Well, she’s the boss.
But she got crossed and cornered all for nothing.
The Calvary’s there, but it seems she lost the cross.

The thunder’s here, you hear the voice from heaven.
But heaven’s nowhere to be found on Google Maps.
The old song said that West Virginia’s almost heaven.
But life has taught me that old songs are just mishaps.
