Toy Balloons

from Unarranged by Matt Kaye

/

lyrics

I don't buy toy balloons for kicks
I don't wear dead men's plaids
I don't know why the house is packed
if those men are really dead

I've never flown over cuckoo's nest
there's nothing much too see
in widow's eyes and pauper's coat
of fraud and jealousy

You courted me, I courted you
but we've never even met
At least not on the pages that
just flipped the words and fled

I don't buy toy balloons for kicks
I flip them up like coins
and that cute smile that autumn wears
does not come from my loins
